Soul Food Soiree
The Soul Food Soiree is back this year with a bigger venue, and more to do! We'll have food trucks, food vendors, a raffle, speakers, demonstrations, recipes, authors, readings, and a kids’ play space. We are focusing on food, culture, and making community connections. If you click into the event and mark yourself interested or going, you'll get all the updates as we fill out the schedule. This is Delaware African American Heritage Council's annual fundraiser for the Erma Mendenhall Scholarship, given every year to graduating African American Seniors in the Delaware City Schools District. We can't wait to see you!
About
The 5th Annual Soul Food Soiree is two-fold in that it was developed as a signature fundraiser for the Delaware African American Heritage Council (DAAHC) Erma Mendenhall scholarship given to African American graduating seniors in the Delaware City Schools district. It was also created to celebrate the rich African American culinary tradition and reinforce our ancestral ties to agriculture. Soul food, which originated in the south, celebrates the ingenuity and skill of cooks who were able to form a distinctive cuisine despite limited means. We invite the community to indulge in food from the heart and soul, to gain deeper insight and understanding of African American culture while forming connections over a common unifier: good food!
Due to the overwhelming response, we've moved to a new venue this year to accommodate our guests - which we anticipate will be close to 300 guests. We've also expanded the event to include food education, entertainment, and family-oriented spaces that will be held on the main stage, family fun space, author talks, and indoor and outdoor vendors.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Delaware African American Heritage Council (DAAHC) Erma Mendenhall scholarship given to African American graduating seniors in the Delaware City Schools district. Organizations are invited to sponsor starting at $250 and spanning to $2,500 with varying benefits at each level.
